Hi! I’m Meg Cowley, indie author and illustrator from Yorkshire, England where I live with my long-suffering husband and our two cat (overlords) Jet and Pixie. I spend my days daydreaming and writing fantastical tales about magic and dragons.
I have my parents to thank for my vivid imagination – they fed my early reading addiction! I spent years in the school library and in bed with a torch, unable to stop reading. The first story I remember writing as a child is about a clever fox (thankfully, that’s long lost). At school, if I wasn’t reading a book under my desk, I was getting told off for drawing in all my classwork books!
Mostly I’m inspired by nature, fantasy art and fiction, and my creative friends around the world. I’m motivated to succeed at whatever I try, and I like to experiment. Being an author is my dream job. I usually work best when fuelled by earl grey tea, margherita pizza and characters who won’t do what they’re told. Generally, I prefer to live in mine or other peoples’ fictional worlds (where bills and chores don’t exist) – and am still waiting for my Hogwarts letter.
We asked the author…
What is your favorite word? I’m a writer; you seriously expect me to pick just one!? I rather like discombobulated.
What is your least favorite word? Ditto above. But I hate ‘babe’. Makes me cringe! Call me that, and I will defenestrate you…
What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally. Beautiful creations; music, art, writing – and of course, nature, the greatest creation of all. There is something hugely inspiring in well-crafted things.
What turns you off? Meat on the bone. No, that is a not a euphemism – get your mind out of the gutter!
What is your favorite curse word? Fuck-a-duck. No idea where I got that one from!
What sound or noise do you love? My cats’ purring.
What sound or noise do you hate? My cats at 3am.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Dragon. That’s a job, right? Elf Queen?
What profession would you not like to do? Anything with blood or mechanics.
If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? All you can eat pizza and free-flowing tea/cocktails!
